  • Gold FEVER - Cha-Ching!

    7:39 AM PST, 8/25/2008

The old prospectors with their pick axes have been replaced by a modern version. These prospectors come equiped with internet savvy and an eye for the real thing. I knew the price of gold had skyrocketed, but when my husband's dentist remarked that his worn gold crown could net us a tank full of gasoline, I was impressed! I didn't realize that dental gold is usally pure 18K and fetches a nice price until I researched completed listings on eBay. Once I had determined the average price per gram and weighed out the valuable little chunk of gold, I determined the price at about $50 and designed a listing I hoped would attract a buyer. I listed it at $49.99 (fixed price) and even went the extra 35 cents for an enlarged view of the gallery shot and kept the shipping low (actually I charged about 32 cents less than cost). The last thing before signing off at 9:30 pm, I hit the POST button and my item went live. I never even got to admire my handiwork. Imagine my surprise this morning when I discovered it had sold overnight... and been PAID FOR instantly by PayPal (I now require electronic payment on all items). Two HOURS! That is a new record. I am almost as impressed as when we sold a house in less than 24 hours. Okay, so it is in the box, with the shipping label affixed, I have left glowing positive feedback and now off to the Post Office! I am going to try and beat the delivery record. I will not think that I should have used auction format and might have gotten more. No, NO, NOOOOO! That would spoil my thrills right now.
  • Knitting yarn & finished items

    7:50 AM PST, 6/18/2007

I recently fell heir to a huge load of beautiful knitting yarn. It is in wonderful condition and I can only imagine the fabulous things that can be made. There are also some finished items that I will be listing in the store and listing for auction. A darling baby doll with perfectly knitted cap, pants and booties and enough yarn (I think for a jacket) will be included in the package. There are 3 comical clowns in bright colors. Soft and pliable, they are just too cute to pass up as a gift for someone who loves clowns or just likes to smile. There are several sets of hotpads in the traditional patterns we have grown up loving, and some will be perfect for serving Christmas dinner. There are two big knitted Christmas stockings and one has a whimsical piggy face knitted on it. There are a handful of tiny thimble-size Christmas stockings with a holly-like hot pad or doily. One item has me puzzled, though I know I have seen them since childhood in many warm homes. It has a sweet doll face with a knitted bonnet and two ends of matching scarf attached with a big button on back. There is also a huge bag of latch hook rug yarn in blues and greens. There is an almost finished off-white cap and two colorful collars in bright colors. There are a number of items that need to be finished that I will package into one bundle for the experienced knitter to tackle. And last but certainly most charming, there is a vintage red poncho with white, blue-centered flowers. It has a thick fringe all around and may have been worn as there is a bit of pilling. This piece is just so 1970s and quaint, you have to love it!
  • Bloody Alice in Goth-land

    4:11 PM PST, 2/4/2007

American McGee's Alice & "friends" (or is it fiends?)action figures came out of the popular video game. The largest piece of the set is the 8 inch Tweedle-Dum and the smallest is the wicked looking Cheshire Cat at under 5 inches ear-tip to tail-tip. The set I'm offering includes Alice, the Cheshire Cat, The White Rabbit, Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum. This ghoulish foursome is covered with blood from their evil doings. According to Wikipedia a new version of Alice will be forthcoming later this year - "Malice in Sunderland is a film that updates the story of the novel Alice in Wonderland and changes the setting to the city of Sunderland, in the north east of England. Filming is due to commence in 2007, with the director Simon Fellows and the actress Mischa Barton playing the lead role."
